10 must have songs to build your break-up playlist

So you just had a break-up. I know how it feels, I’ve been there. No matter what advice your friends throw you, the idea of simply moving on seems impossible.

But should you take this advice for granted? Well, you shouldn’t. Here, I listed 10 songs you should have in your break-up playlist because admit it, we are all guilty of playing mellow songs screaming of desperation and melancholy. It is just wrong, it won’t help you. Believe me. So get up from your slumber and listen to these:

1. Goodbye To You by Michelle Branch [Music Video]

It hurts to want everything & nothing at the same time
I want what’s yours and I want what’s mine
I want you but I’m not giving in this time

Goodbye to you
Goodbye to everything I thought I knew
You were the one I loved
The one thing that I tried to hold on to

For me, Goodbye To You is a beautifully written song. I consider this a happy song ,actually. It describes a person that was once blinded but now had seen the truth amidst the lies.

2. King of Anything by Sara Bareilles [Music Video]

All my life I’ve tried to make everybody happy
While I just hurt and hide
Waiting for someone to tell me it’s my turn to decide

Who cares if you disagree?
You are not me
Who made you king of anything?
So you dare tell me who to be?
Who died and made you king of anything?

Communication is very important in a relationship. If you had been into a relationship that shuts you up, you had been into a wrong one. Now it’s time for you to be heard.

3. White Horse by Taylor Swift [Music Video]

Say you’re sorry, that face of an angel
Comes out just when you need it to

I’m gonna find someone someday who might actually treat me well

4. Take A Bow by Rihanna [Music Video]

And don’t tell me you’re sorry cause you’re not
Baby when I know you’re only sorry you got caught

You’ve been lied to, admit it. Love is sweet but it is also blind, it’s the ugly truth. So next time be careful in giving your trust.

5. You Can Always Come Home by Jason Castro [Music & Lyrics]

I don’t think he deserves you
I’m gonna come right out and say it
Even though I hardly know you at all
That’s what makes this so hard
‘Cause I remember he hurt you
Told you he didn’t have the time
To see you or even answer your calls
After breaking your heart

If he leaves you cold in the city aching for a lover
Honey, you can always come home.

How sweet it is when someone tells you that no matter what, wherever you are, you can always come home. Whether they are your friends, your family, or special someone, keep them. In this particular time, you need them and unlike that person who hurt you, they will never will.

6. Last Christmas by Wham [Music & Lyrics]

Last Christmas
I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year
To save me from tears
I’ll give it to someone special

Now I’ve found a real love you’ll never fool me again

Who says Christmas songs is only for Christmas? Now you have a reason to play a christmas song the whole year. It will remind you not to give your heart easily (of course this is metaphor) and that someday, someone will come along that will fit in there perfectly.

7. Magical Feeling by M.Y.M.P. [Music & Lyrics]

I’m happy you left me
I prayed that you hurt me
It’s a magical feeling
Knowing that you’re not meant for me

Always believe that if it is meant to be, it will be.

8. Sunset by Marques Houston [Music Video]

So then people try to warn me about you
Said that I should never trust you
But so stupid me I didn’t listen then
I let myself go fall in love with you

(What happened to us)
You were supposed to be my future
But do I really have to take it right back
(Are you really in love)
Or was I just a game to prove to yourself
You could get me

Maybe one day we’ll end up talking again
Maybe one day we’ll go back to being just friends
Promise to love you baby till my life ends
Cause you’re my sunset

One step in moving on is knowing. Knowing what really happened, what has gone wrong. After all, one thing you can get from every heart ache is a lesson. And moving on is not actually forgetting, it is actually accepting. Moving on is actually not hatred, or not loving because no matter what, you will still love this person and you will know that you really moved on when you still love this person but you stopped longing to be with him.

9. Pocketful of Sunshine by Natasha Bedingfield [Music Video]

I got a pocket, got a pocketful of sunshine.
I got a love, and I know that it’s all mine.
Oh, oh whoa

Do what you want, but you’re never gonna break me.
Sticks and stones are never gonna shake me.
No, oh whoa

Just to remind you that you can bear each day easily when you take it positively. People do come and go and so as pain. Crying all day doesn’t make things any less real. Sure you need to cry but don’t do so forever. Moving on takes time, and it will take much longer if you don’t start right now. Take this playlist as one step and you’re good to go.

Now I want to end this list with the best song you must hear after break up. It will remind you on how you really should be treated. Being second best is not a choice for you. Treat yourself right like how you want people to treat you. Love yourself first above others, because how can you be worthy of love if you never loved your self. You are a queen. Remember, real men knows how to treat their girl right.

10. Express Yourself by Madonna [Music Video]

Don’t go for second best baby
Put your love to the test
You know, you know, you’ve got to
Make him express how he feels
And maybe then you’ll know your love is real

You deserve the best in life
So if the time isn’t right then move on
Second best is never enough
You’ll do much better baby on your own

And when you’re gone he might regret it
Think about the love he once had
Try to carry on, but he just won’t get it
He’ll be back on his knees
